For my personal project I decided to do child abuse. I noticed that there was not a lot of posters that show all the different types of child abuse. They only really shown pictures of children being physically abused. I know that there is a lot more out there and I thought it will be a good idea to show that there is more than one different type of abuse.

I started the proposal a few weeks before starting the project, I wrote about what it was that I want to do, I put the target audience as young adults because I think that they are not yet sure about child abuse and there is a lot of young parents. I thought that they might only think that physical abuse is the only type of child abuse and neglect their child. I think it is important to get the message across to young parents. I had known about child abuse for a while I know people who have been abused as a child so I thought it would be easy for me to do.

I  made a schedule for getting all of the work done. I managed to keep to the schedule however I did not give myself much time for the actual creation for the poster. I gave myself enough time to do the research in and outside of college. I gave myself a lesson to create the presentation and make any final touches to the website however due to someone I wanted to be my model hasn't been to the lesson for a while or has been to busy with his work so I couldn't get any pictures for the poster.

I did a lot of research online looking at posters. Most of the posters show physical abuse and nothing about the other types of abuse. I also put a survey up and it showed that not many people knew about all the types of abuse. They all thought it was a good idea to create a poster showing all the different types. The survey shown that people dont know what is the right punishment for those who abuse children. I also researched an artist called Lanny Sommese. He had done some posters for child abuse that is not physical. There was not much information about his past so I dont know what had inspired him to create the poster. All of the research I had done was very helpful in the creation for the poster. I found out that not many people knew about child abuse and that most think it is about physical abuse.

I did all of my research for my pre production and I had been playing in photoshop deciding what my poster would look like. For my production I spent about 2 weeks looking through the internet and adding it to my poster. I did not want to write a lot for each type of abuse so I took what I thought was the most important parts and added them in. I also coloured in the title using the paintbrush tool.  I spent about 2 weeks in photoshop creating the poster I was waiting for a lot of the time trying to get a model to take pictures of. In the end I decided to go on and continue making the poster without a picture. I made sure that all of the information needed was on there.

I had to create a powerpoint presentation for the poster going through what inspired me and why I choose to do this project. I also got some peer feedback from Oskar who said the information was good however he thinks I should of put more colour on it to make it eye catching. I felt like I rushed through everything during the presentation and I could've explained more. I also feel like I should've done more on the presentation.

Overall I think that the project was ok. I felt like I could've done more for the presentation and the website could've done with some pictures and make it more colourful. However I think that the information was good and people would learn something new from it. If I was to do this project again I would find someone else to be my model and I would've worked on my presentation more.

Today I have started and finished my powerpoint presentation for my personal project. I have included pictures of my poster.

I have had some responses on the survey I did and it shows that most people do not know much about child abuse. People didnt know about the different charities that deal with child abuse, Most people think that the right punishment for a child abuser would be to go to prison. People did not know about the different types of child abuse.

Today I have started writing up the questions for survey monkey, however I was not able to finish it because the website crashed and I could not get back on it. So I will have to finish it at home.

I asked questions asking if people knew the different types of child abuse, and if they know anyone who has been abused as a child and if they knew what kind of help is out there.

proposal

The theme I have chosen is child abuse because there is a lot of research out there explaining child abuse, I know quite a lot about child abuse. This wont be too hard to do I just need to decide how I am going to do it. There are lots of different types of child abuse which gives me a lot of information I can put down.

I want to create a poster showing the different types of child abuse because some people might not know what all of the different types. I will add some pictures but have more writing than anything.

I want a big picture the middle of a child looking sad, and surrounding it is information about the different types of child abuse, I might have some more pictures but I am not sure yet, I think that an image of a sad child will attract more attention, There is a lot of different pictures of sad children for child abuse posters.

This is one example of child abuse, This is showing physical abuse which most people think child abuse is. However there is a lot more than just physical abuse, but this is a good example to attract someones attention. It creates a lot of sympathy for the child. This would be the most common example on child abuse posters because it is the most eye catching. You can find a lot of these posters on bus stops because they are usually in busy areas where people past every day and something like this would stand out.

I want to have a big picture in the middle of a child who is looking sad and then having the different types of child abuse around it. I will not have the main picture of the child having bruises because I want to show that there is more than just physical abuse.





This picture would be effective because even though it doesn't show a picture of a child who has been physically abused people know what it is advertising because of the teddy bear, the teddy bear is linked with children.






This poster shows a child who has been beaten. This would be very eye catching and is the most common type of picture used on anti child abuse posters. This can also be useful to children who have been abused they now know that they should talk about what has happened to them because there are those who do not have the choice to tell people how they feel and what has happened.

This picture was created by an artist called Lanny Sommese, and can be found on the website Retinart. The image shows someone reaching up to someone, however the person is in a defensive position saying that they dont want it. Also it doesn't show the gender of the person showing that it is not just girls who get abused.

Child abuse

There are lots of different types of child abuse, some is physical, sexual, emotional or neglect. It can be caused by adults or other children and can take place at home, school or anywhere.

Neglect is where the parent or carer fails to feed the child or give them their basic needs for whatever reason, it also includes lacking attention and love.

Physical abuse is where the child would be punched, kicked, beat, burnt, strangled, poisoning. Most of physical abuse is taken place at home using objects. In most places child abuse is illegal.

Sexual abuse is where someone gets a child to perform sexual acts with them, or showing a child's genitals. Also sending child porn, all of this is illegal.

• Can be caused by life events like being neglected unequal parent treatment of siblings. 
• drugs can cause depression.

Depression is where someone is in a state of low mood, they feel sad, anxious, empty, hopeless, helpless. They might loose interest in activities they used to do ans enjoy, it could also make someone want to commit suicide. It makes you feel like a failure and find it hard to sleep and when you do get to sleep you can have disturbing dreams. You can get physical aches for no reason.

There are different ways to help with the depression, one way is taking medication another way is going to groups to talk about it.
